Since these hats are covered in patterned stitches (Basketweave and Raspberry Stitch), it’s important to knit them in a way that preserves the patterning. I suggest knitting a straight tube hat with no shaping at the top. (See this Basic Hat pattern.) Once the knitting is completed, you close the opening by simply gathering the stitches together and fastening off inside.

If you’re going to knit many hats for your set, keep in mind that children grow quickly! Consider knitting the first hats a bit big so that those children haven’t outgrown their hats before you finish the set and give them to everyone.
